Coach Megan Minich's Journey and Story
I’m Megan– a holistic health coach, certified personal trainer, a wife, an avid endurance athlete and an allergy-friendly cook from Warren, PA.
I have suffered from many digestive disorders and I was diagnosed with Crohn's, an autoimmune disease, when I was 23 years old. After a few years of suffering, multiple hospital visits, and doctors telling me that what I ate wasn’t a factor in my disease, I decided to take matters into my own hands and drastically change my diet.
Because the disease causes mal-absorption and a super active digestive system my weight would fluctuate drastically with each flare-up and I would often lose 5-15 pounds within aweek period. I was regularly on a huge 100mg dose of prednisone steroids which resulted in debilitating side-effects like 100% sleepless nights, hormone fluctuation, gut-wrenching pain and insatiable hunger.
My western medicine doctors refused to speak to me about diet and only wanted to continue prescribing medications. Through my own research on healthy blogs, autoimmune diets and seeking out others who had seen relief through food, I radically changed my diet and pray that it would help me. I saw improvement within a month of going dairy, grain and refined sugar free.
Although I saw initial improvement I was not healthy. I was in a very stressful career and worked long nights. In 2012, I decided to pursue my passion and become a Holistic Health Coach. I threw caution to the wind, quit my job and started to heal. In December in 2012 opportunity dropped at my door step (or should I saw sat on a spin bike next to me and I joined Whole Health Chiropractic Center.
It is now 2016 and I am happy and healthier. I am still not 100% but I am off all prescription drugs and have my disease stable and manageable. I would not have gotten hear by just changes my diet and lifestyle choices. I owe my health to my wellness team which consists of my family, my Chiropractor, my naturopath, and my dedication and passion for health.
Since my diagnosis I have taken the approach of “my health is truly in my own hands.” I have become passionate about food, fitness, and health and love educating others on holistic approaches to health. One thing I always say is “eat real food.”
